Relaxed treasury yields boost Dubai gold prices

Gulf Gold Rate Today

Gold prices increased overnight following robust demand at a 30-year US Treasury auction, which led to a decline in long-dated yields from their highest levels in over twenty years. The metal experienced an increase of over 1 percent, trading close to $4,180 per ounce. It had reached a two-month low earlier this week. Lower Treasury prices attracted buyers to Thursday’s 30-year sale, resulting in a decline in yields across maturities. That alleviated the strain on gold, an asset that yields no interest.

In the UAE, prices experienced an uptick of approximately Dh7 per gram, with 24 karat gold rising above Dh500 per gram once again. Currently, gold is priced at Dh504.50, an increase from Dh497.75 observed on October 8. 22-karat has also increased to Dh467, while 18-karat is now trading at Dh384 per gram. Declining oil prices have also contributed positively to gold. President Donald Trump stated that he would refrain from taking military action against Iran prior to the US midterm elections and described discussions with Tehran as constructive.

Christopher Wong, strategist at Oversea-Chinese Banking Corp, attributes this morning’s rebound primarily to the stabilisation observed in the US Treasury market. High yields, oil prices, and a stronger dollar have exerted downward pressure on gold. Wong indicated that the decline in yields has “provided an opportunity for some buying to return.” Traders anticipate that US borrowing costs will remain stable later this month, with an expected increase over the medium term.

Alberto Musalem, president of the St. Louis Federal Reserve, indicated on Thursday that rates should climb over the next six to nine months to bring inflation back to the Fed’s 2 percent target. He refrained from endorsing an increase at this month’s policy meeting. Gold experienced an increase of 1.1 percent, reaching a price of $4,182.56 per ounce. Silver increased by 1.86 percent to $60.26 an ounce, effectively reversing the losses incurred in the prior session. Platinum and palladium experienced an upward movement, whereas the Bloomberg Dollar Spot Index saw a minor decline.
